On Tuesday, 2nd July, our Sixth Form students in Year 12 became involved in team building and problem solving activities at Go Ape and in London.
The students who chose ‘Go Ape’ bravely undertook the Treetop challenges such as high tree-to-tree crossings and free fall Tarzan swings, whilst each challenge ended with a zip wire ride to the ground.
The students enjoyed this activity and were excellent at motivating each other to overcome the increasingly difficult challenges. Working in teams of 15, the students had a thrilling experience.
The practical element of this activity was very well received by all the students involved. They all followed the extensive safety briefing by the Go Ape team, asking insightful questions and learning essential life skills in the process. They said: “It allowed us to overcome difficult challenges”; “It was a fun activity and it was great to see the teachers joining in”; “ I would definitely go again”.
Other students decided to travel around London during which time they were able to enjoy the spectacular sights around the City of London, including the Monument, London Bridge, the Shard and of course the River Thames.
The students especially enjoyed their time at the incredible Sky Garden. This is a very unique public space, spanning three storeys and providing 360 degrees of uninterrupted views across the City.
Students were free to explore the exquisitely landscaped gardens, the observation decks as well as enjoying the vibrant open-air terrace with lots of opportunities for photos.
Students really enjoyed the day and said “The Sky Garden was absolutely beautiful and walking around London was great as there were so many amazing sights to see”.
Overall, it was a fantastic and memorable day for all the students involved and we hope to repeat these trips for the new Year 12s this time next year.
