On Friday 7 February the Year 10 Textile students took part in a Recycled Fashion sewing competition, in partnership with Brent Council, with the Mayor of Brent Councillor Tariq Dar MBE joining our judging panel alongside a local fashion designer and some members of our 6th form.

The design brief was to upcycle 3 men’s shirts into a new garment. Students had to consider colour palette, creative silhouette and imaginative repurposing of the shirt pieces.

Students had to prepare oral presentations and this was taken into consideration when judging.  They worked exceptionally hard in a short period of time and have all been highly successful at working together in teams. The judging panel had a very hard time choosing winners as the standard was so high.

Congratulations to Chanya and Zara who were the overall winners, with Maya and Carolina highly commended, and Sarah and Shreya winning best oral presentation.

Thank you to Mr Slade who kindly donated many shirts for this competition – we couldn’t have done this without your donations!
