Twelve Year 12 students are members of the Brent Youth Ambassador programme which provides young people with an opportunity to learn about leadership, community engagement and social issues. These meetings have been held on a monthly basis throughout the year with other local schools and involve discussions, workshops and activities aimed at developing young peopleās skills and knowledge. The music GCSE group along with some talented year 9 students attended a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No.2 as part of a Philharmonic Orchestra performance titled Transcendences. The music was thought provoking and emotive. The students gasped at the sights of the Royal Albert Hall and the streets of Kensington as they took in the sights. (more…)
On Thursday April 20th, Alperton welcomed the London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service and the Metropolitan Police to our school. Year 9 students took part in workshops about road safety, staying safe from serious violence, and what services are available in emergencies. (more…)
On Wednesday 29th March 2023, the Year 8 prefect team were rewarded with a trip to the Victoria and Albert Museum for all their hard work throughout the year.
The moment we walked through the gates there was already so much for us to see. There was a colourful display where we could take pictures and play around for a while. When we first entered the museum, we were mesmerised and amazed by all the artefacts that were laid just at the front. (more…)
On Friday 10 February novelist Jyoti Patel visited the school to run creative writing workshops with students from Years 9 and 10. She spoke inspirationally about her life and motivation, and on the power of representation in art and literature, encouraging students to use writing as a way to honour their lived experiences. On Friday 10 February, we had the privilege of hosting at Alperton two artworks of Turner Prize winning artists Lubaina Himid and Rachel Whiteread.Ā The event was organised by the charity Artists in Residence who has been collaborating with the Government Art Collection organisation to bring art collections to schools and give students an up-close look at famous works of art. Last week, Alperton Community School welcomed back another two former pupils, Priya Madani and Saurav Acharya, who both left Alperton almost 10 years ago. Priya is a qualified Secondary School Science teacher and Saurav is a Data and Insights Consultant at Capgemini. (more…)
Well done to our Sixth Form Year 12 Students who came second and third in the Artemis Profit Hunt Challenge. Students have been preparing for this moment since September andĀ in the competition they presented to a panel of three judges, including the CEO of Artemis. On Friday 3 February we organised an excellent University Fair for our Year 10, Year 11 and 6th form students. We had representatives from 17 different universities: Brunel University, City University London, London Metropolitan University, Middlesex University, Queen Mary University, Roehampton University, West London University, University of Reading, surrey university, University of Essex, Unviersity of Sussex, University of Hertfordshire, University of Bristol, Newcastle University, York University, St Mary’s University, University of Westminster and SOAS University. This week we are celebrating Healthy Living Week at Alperton and our students have created some amazing work to celebrate this event.
During our art class taught on Tuesday after school, a group of six year 7 students created these amazing Matisse-inspired nature collages from real life flowers. The students worked in pairs on their collages and produced some lovely work. Each took home some flowers afterwards. (more…)
