The Year 12 students of Alperton Community School were given the opportunity to experience the game of Ultimate Frisbee during Activity Week last Monday. Led by Mr. Lazaroo, a group of volunteers from the local community facilitated the Ultimate Frisbee taster sessions for almost 150 students over the course of the entire day. The volunteers coached students on how to improve their throwing and catching technique, whilst also introducing the fundamental rules of the sport. Soon after, the students were able to play matches against each other based on their form classes and showcase their newly acquired skills. There was a lot of friendly and positive competition amongst the students and the session was ultimate-ly fun for all the students, volunteers as well as accompanying staff members who joined in. Congratulations to our LS9 students who enjoyed their last forest school session last week. They were joined by some keen members of the Level 2 program and thanks to Miss Zaraat’s support they were able to try kayaking for the first time.

Alperton students took part in an exciting art competition organised by Brent Council and the charity Artists in Residence, run by our art teacher Andria Zafirakou. The competition was launched as part of an innovative project to decorate a giant 100m long hoarding in front of building works on Wembley High Road, just a stone’s throw from world-famous Wembley Stadium. Last week, sixty Year 7 students had the rare opportunity to participate in two fun and engaging workshops with sculptor Brian Alabaster. The workshops were organised as part of the St George’s Sculpture Art Project who is commissioning a public art sculpture for the new Grand Union Canal Development. (more…)
Congratulation to our Y12 students who won the Profit Hunt Challenge competition earlier this month. The competition was organised by Arrival Education in collaboration with Investec, an International Investment Bank. As part of the challenge the students were required to create a presentation about their stock and personal gain made throughout the programme so far and competed with students from other schools in London.
