Our Year 11 and Year 12 Most Able students attended two informative and inspirational presentations, delivered by students from Jesus College, University of Cambridge. They learned about life at university, prospects for future employment and the advantages of studying for a degree at Cambridge University. (more…)
Last week (4th – 8th March) was National Careers Week and here at Alperton Community School we ran a number of events and activities in order to support this event. On Monday during form time, students explored the importance of Labour Market Information when making decisions about career choices. Comparing careers against one another and against the national average enabled students to easily see if a certain vocation is in growth or decline. Two teams of Year 8 and Year 9 students represented Alperton in the Magistratesâ Court Mock Trial Competition on Saturday 9 March. It was the studentsâ first experience of the legal system and they found it very enjoyable and engaging. They were well prepared for their competition as the Liaison Magistrate, Tim Harris, had organised a visit to Willesden Magistratesâ Court for them in advance of the competition and they learnt a lot by observing other trials. Additionally, the English and Drama teachers, Ms Sidharh, Ms Jaffrey and Ms Wallace offered their support with the presentation. (more…)
On Monday we had the wonderful opportunity to invite to our school our prospective new year 7 cohort to meet with our staff and take advantage of their guidance and assistance with the application process. Last week we hosted three successful Most Able Fairs. A large number of staff, multi agencies and sixth form students collaborated to make the KS3 and KS4 Most Able Fairs a very productive experience for our Most Able students and their parents. (more…)

On Friday 8th February 100 students attended an inspiring talk given by author Nikesh Shukla. He spoke about what motivated him to write his first novel for teenagers, Run, Riot – a thriller set in real time, which tells the story of a close-knit group of friends who discover corruption has infiltrated the tower block where they live. Congratulations to our Youth Travel Ambassadors (YTA) for last weekâs Campaign Junction pitch. The judges were amazed by the quality of our studentsâ presentation and their confident public speaking. They were able to answer some complex questions from the panel on the spot and demonstrated an advanced level of knowledge and engagement in these travel issues and their campaign really stood out. We look forward to seeing how their campaigns develop. (more…)
