Over the past three weeks, our KS4 and KS5 students took part in a number of workshops with special guests from King’s College London as part of you enrichment programme
On 27 January, our Year 11 students took part in a workshops called Tomorrow’s World & CAD & 3D Modelling. They learned about CAD and AI and spent time designing various models using Tinkercard software, and one of our students, Sonam, will have her model printed via a 3D printer.
The feedback we received from the students was fantastic:
It was great experience. I enjoyed it a lot and I got to share my knowledge of quantum mechanics and other general knowledge. The 3D modelling was a new experience for me and it was very entertaining and engaging. (Student, Yr11)
I really enjoyed the workshop. We had the opportunity to design a 3D model of a ring on an app called Tinkercard and also explore the other features of the app. We also listen a very interesting presentation from the researchers. (Student, Yr11)
The workshop was very interesting. We learned a lot about the different ways technology is advancing and I found the quantum computing part especially stimulating. Thank you for arranging this workshop. (Student, Yr11)
I found the workshop quite engaging and I’ve been thinking about the things we’ve learned for a long time after the workshop, and I am considering choosing physics as one of my A level options. Thank you for providing us with this opportunity. (Student, Yr11)
The second workshop was about Careers in Science and Circuits and Currents. Our students took part in a session on building circuits and also benefitted from career advice and learned how to write a personal statement.
The session went really well. We got to learn the basics of electronics and how to use the Tinkercad website to construct our own circuit. They also introduced us to a variety of careers that we could potentially go into as well as shared tips for when it comes to writing our personal statement. The guests were really kind and shared their own experiences and thoughts about university life. Overall, it was a really amazing opportunity so thank you for providing us with this great workshop. (Student, Yr12)
During the third workshop, called Creative Minds in Science & Green Energy Innovations, our students spent time working in groups to address different environmental issues, from finding alternative materials to replace plastic, to making cars more environmentally friendly. They also had the opportunity to present their work at the end of the session and each person in their group contributed to the final piece.
I really enjoyed the session and working with my group. Thank you for providing this opportunity. (Student, Yr10)
The workshop was really interesting and I enjoyed exploring how science can help with finding solutions to the current environmental issues. (Student, Yr10)
