On Tuesday 29th of November, as part of our annual Careers Fair for KS4 and KS5 students, our Science teacher, Mr Mahmoud, invited two guest speakers in the field of engineering, Charlie (Consultant for Transport for London) and Sylvie (Robotics). The guests kindly brought schematics of things they worked on, such as frames of train tracks and a bluetooth-operated robot. In the video below you can see our pupils trying to operate the robot, which will move when the colour indicated via the bluetooth (through the phone) matches.
Mr Mahmoud also distributed career booklets and stationary sent over by the Institute of Physics to help our Y11 and Y13 students explore the wider applicability of physics. These were designed to promote physics to Y11 students and encourage them to choose this as an A Level subject. For Y12 and Y13 students these provided more information about pursuing a STEM degree, including different degree routes or degree apprenticeships, and the sort of jobs one can do afterwards.
Many thanks to Mr Mahmoud for organising this opportunity for our students.
