On Friday we welcomed Karen Hamilton-Bannis to our Textiles department to talk to the A-Level students about her Textiles career. Karen showed students her portfolio and recent textiles print collection Wynderush, a series of colourful, bold, tropically infused digital prints inspired by the women of the Caribbean who travelled to the UK in the fifties and sixties as part of the Windrush Generation.
They then took part in a workshop led by Karen, teaching them how to create repeat stencil designs inspired by leaves, a part of her own design process for creating her digital prints.
The students found the workshop very inspiring and many are now developing their own designs from what they created in the lesson.
A big thank you to Dr Mahmoud for organising this visit for our Textiles students.
