On Thursday, 25th April, seven Year 9 and 10 students travelled with Ms Gibbs to Wellington Barracks in central London for the British Army Open Day. This was a unique opportunity for our students to get an insight into the different careers available within the British Army.

The event comprised of uniformed soldier-led interactive and engaging activities, information relating to Army careers and apprenticeships, Regular, Reserve and Cadet stands, as well as an array of army equipment on display.

Our students had a wonderful time and this highly anticipated trip was filled with excitement, educational and hands-on activities that provided students with a much deeper understanding of military life and the diverse roles within the British Army.

The trip was very useful, as we had the opportunity to learn more about the many careers available in the army, given there are more than 400 different jobs roles, including medics, engineers and musicians to accompany the soldiers in the camps. During the day, we also took part in various activities and games that made us understand what creates an effective team that can work together and use their knowledge to make choices collectively. We also had the chance to use a laser rifle to practice our aim and tested our agility and speed by taking part in a simulated game of ‘The floor is lava’, in which we had to communicate with each other and tried to move to different places using only our strength and a heavy plank.’ (Yug, Y10)
