On the last Tuesday of term, our art teacher Ms Bowerman had the opportunity of taking 10 year 8 students to Metford in Suffolk as part of the St Georges sculpture project to visit the workshop of sculptor Brian Alabaster.
While in year 7, three of the students: Pratham, Nisha and Chantall, had spent 16 hours modelling for the sculptor, as he built life-size clay statues of them.
After many months of preparation, the day had finally come when the bronze was melted and poured into the moulds. The three models and seven other students who had been involved in the project were invited to spend the day at his workshop in Suffolk.
For the students this was an experience of a lifetime. It was both fascinating and awe-inspiring, and we were treated with the utmost hospitality by Brian Alabaster and his wife Franny.
