Last week, a group of selected Year 9 students took part in the Magistrates’ Court Competition. The students prepared meticulously for the event, performed well as a team and produced some fine individual performances. Thanks to Ritesh for his support on Saturday and to Ms Green and Ms Lopez and all the staff for their support during the preparation stage.  We are grateful to Tim Harris JP for his induction, and to parents for supporting the project.

Parents who attended the competition were rightly proud of their children.  Alperton faced formidable opponents with schools from Barnet, Ealing, Harrow and Richmond now competing in Willesden.  Although our school didn’t win, our team benefited from the experience and all students were great ambassadors for the school.

Message from Tim Harris JP Deputy Bench Chair North West London LJA

“Firstly, well done to you and your team for the excellent performance you achieved at the Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial NW London heat last weekend. The judges who assessed your team in action said they produced some really good performances.

Overall the team scored highly on the fact they came across as well prepared and demonstrated a good grasp of the facts. In particular, your prosecution witnesses and the defence witness did really well, one of your magistrates scored highly and, of course, Dennis Holness stood out.

In a particularly close-run competition, it was a matter of a few points that separated the winners from the rest. It was a really good performance all round and I really hope to meet a new team from Alperton Community School next year.”
